Named for its unique shape, our flat iron steaks are masterfully prepared from the chuck, and are much more tender than other shoulder cuts. It’s a hearty, flavorful, aged steak that’s excellent braised, pan-fried, grilled, or soaked in your favorite marinade.


Hand-selected by our Master Graders under our Eating Quality System, our aged flat iron steaks are flavorful, tender, and juicy — every time. We independently tested 97,000 samples with consumers to determine their true beef preferences, so we know our beef is consistently delicious.

The Cut

The flat iron steak comes from the top blade of the shoulder, which sits around a seam of gristle that can make the meat tough. But at Silver Fern Farms, our flat irons steaks are expertly removed from the gristle, leaving you with tender, delicious meat.

Cooking time

6-8
mins / medium rare

Best cooking methods: pan-frying or grilling.


Remove from packaging, cover, and bring to room temperature.


Rub oil over the steaks and season.


Preheat the frying pan or grill to medium-high. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare.


Transfer to a plate, cover, and rest for 5 minutes.
